Obituary Karl Stickel
Karl F. Stickel, 98, a longtime resident of Connellsville and local businessman, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born June 14, 1915, in Ligonier, a son of the late Otto and Lola Austin Stickel. Karl was a graduate of Connellsville High School and also had attended Penn State Fayette Campus. Karl, along with his wife Helen as his partner, was the owner and operator of Stickel Freight and Delivery Services, the South Side Atlantic Service Station and Walt's Confectionary and Market. He had also worked in media service at Westmoreland County Community College. Karl was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army with Company B in the 220th Infantry Training Battalion. Karl was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was the former chairman of the Trustee Board and was also a member of the Men's Bible Class. Karl was a former member of Pleasant Valley Country Club, a former committeeman for the Boy Scouts of America, former member of the Connellsville Chamber of Commerce, a member of the former Connellsville Kiwanis Club and the Connellsville Lions Club. Karl is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Karl was predeceased by his wife, Helen H. Henry Stickel, in 2004; and two brothers and a sister. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, the hour of a funeral service in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, 724-628-1430, with the Rev. David D. Ealy officiating. A committal service and entombment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 417 S. Pittsburgh, St., Connellsville, PA 15425, in memory of Karl F. Stickel.

Helen HENRY Stickel, 85, of Delmont, Pa., formerly of Woodcrest Senior Retirement Community in Scottdale, Pa., and formerly of Connellsville, Pa., who graduated with honors from Connellsville High School where she was a member of
the girls basketball team, retired from Bell Telephone with 41 years service, then retired from Westmoreland County Community College where she worked as a bookkeeper, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, Pa.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Karl F. Stickel; daughter, Karen J. Stickel Kuhn and husband Charles Kuhn, Delmont, Pa.; grandson, Scott A. Stickel, Connellsville, Pa.; brother, William E. Henry, Felton, Delaware; sister, Betty Henry Holderbaum, Dover, Delaware, sister-in-law, Esther Henry, Dover, Delaware; nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Service for Helen in Wesley United Methodist Church, Connellsville, Pa., today, March 8, at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under direction of the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa.
