Comments: William Walter "Bill" Vardy, 60, of Arkansas City, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Pastor Pete Seidel will officiate. The family will greet friends at the funeral home 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Bill was born August 9, 1944, in Rochester, N. Y., to Glenn Donald and Ruth L. (Ferguson) Vardy. He was reared and educated in Mount Clemens, Mich., and Wakita, Okla., graduating from Wakita High School in 1964. He later attended Cowley County Community College, Southwestern College, Wichita State University, Newman University and the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Vardy has obtained master's degrees in education and psychology from St. Louis University. Bill married Rhonda Stickel on August 22, 1975, in Wichita. The couple made their home in El Dorado and Garden City before moving to Arkansas City in 1976. He was the Administrator of the Cowley County Developmental Services, Twin Rivers, for 13 years. He is also the owner of Arvarda Housing. He was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church and the president of the Native American Parent Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda, of the home; one son, William Antonio Vardy, of Wichita; a daughter, Angelina EttaRuth Vardy, of the home; a foster son, William Robert Marsh, of Arkansas City; and a brother, Robert Vardy, of Arkansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established with the Native American Student Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City.
