At the outbreak of the Civil war Mr. Stickel enlisted in Company I, Fifty-ninth Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and participated with his regiment in some of the important battles of the war, including the battle of Huntsville, Alabama, Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee, and also took part in numerous smaller engagements. On account of loss of health he was honorably discharged from service at the end of one year and returned to this state where he recovered his health and in 1868 went to Pennsylvania and was married.
Died in Elwin, Illinois (IL), USA on July 23, 1909 (Age 74)
